IT’S A ‘NOBEL’ AFFAIR FOR THE HUB AS IT OFFICIALLY OPENS FOR BUSINESS
Date: 22nd June 2007
PRUPIM, one of the UK’s leading real estate investment managers, is planning a special ceremony to mark the official opening of the Witton-based £150million distribution and industrial site, The Hub. The launch will also include the naming of the main service road at the site, ‘Nobel Way.’
The opening coincides with the commencement of operations for The Hub’s third largest occupier; Iron Mountain, which has taken a 63,000 sq. ft. unit on a 15 year term, with an additional 70,000 sq. ft. of land available to them. The launch also marks the start of the first major speculative scheme, a 120,000 sq.ft. unit, situated in a prime location on the Witton Road frontage.
PRUPIM has invited Councillor Hardeman, Council Cabinet Member for regeneration to lead the ceremony, who has played a significant role in the successful regeneration process for this site.
Councillor Hardeman says:
“Through working in partnership with PRUPIM we have been able to complete another important stage in the regeneration of this significant industrial site. The Hub is also the focus of one of five ‘employment hubs’
across the city linking local people to the jobs arising from major developments and growth sectors. Thanks are due to PRUPIM and the staff at North West City Jobs for all that has been achieved here.”
The regeneration of the site, which over the last century was home to IMI, a company that produced munitions and other items relating to the war effort, has been highly praised. PRUPIM has encouraged local community participation in the regeneration process, by involving local school children in a history project to research the role of the site during World War 2.
The site is an ideal location for occupiers who need to relocate to Birmingham and has bought much needed employment to the area. PRUPIM works side by side with North West City Jobs to ensure the local community benefits from any employment opportunities.
Jamie Chard, Director Project Management at PRUPIM, comments:
“We are proud of what we have achieved in regenerating the site so far and the employment opportunities we have created for those living in the area. As a leading real estate investment manager, our influence on the environment and the communities in which we operate is considerable, and we have a clear obligation to engage positively and proactively with the communities we touch.”
We are not only celebrating that the site is now open for business, but also commending the efforts of all involved in the project and the successful regeneration of this site.”
Also attending the ceremony will be Clive Dutton, Director of Planning and Regeneration and Waheed Nazir, Assistant Director of Development and Planning along with other key council officers involved in the project, Andy Upton, Iron Mountain General Manager and PRUPIM’s Development team.
