Local entrepreneur's successful expansion - with a little help from North West City Jobs

North West City Jobs (NWCJ) and the Construnction Employment Alliance (CEA) are working in partnership with with Aston-based Glendon Property Services.

The aim is to recruit local women who seeking a career as skilled workers in the building industry.

Glendon already employs three women and is seeking a further 10.

Glendon Property Services is a remarkable local success story. When David Bryan and his business partner set up the company three years ago, their aim was to gain a successful foothold in the social housing refurbishment sector. They now employ eleven people, have made a profit each of their three years, have grown to a turnover of £1.4 million and are set to double in size this year.

"We have a strong business plan," David explains, "that focuses as much on our employees as it does on the business. We are an equal opportunity company and we are absolutely committed to employing people from the local community."
Ambrin Chauhan, Team Leader, North West City Jobs comments, "This is a perfect example of how we work in partnership with organisations like the Construction Employment Alliance. We have common aims in terms of getting local people into worthwhile, long term employment."

"Employing women in this way, says David, "is a wonderful opportunity to provide training in skills previously considered the preserve of men. It also allows us to meet the special needs of, say, single mothers who might feel uncomfortable with male workers in their property."

Good news for the community. Good news for the NWCJ and CEA partnership. And good news for a very successful Aston-based company with a strong commitment to people in the area.
